Tani is an artist living on Turrbal land in Brisbane/ Meanjin, Australia.
I approach photography through the lens of my own journey as a mother and woman who experiences an ever changing body. I am on a journey, a great adventure, to explore the stories of your skin as it stretches, tightens, scars and ages in every phase of your life. This is womanhood, motherhood, life as a woman.
The journey through matrescence (the process of becoming a mother) is wild, an entanglement of bodies, emotions, pressure from societal norms and contradicting ideals of your own personal childhood and historical narrative.
It is hard, taxing, relentless, joyous, overwhelming, suffocating, spirited, wonderous, magnificent and lonely. Using a raw and honest storytelling approach I delight in framing the chaos of this matrescence journey into still moments of beautiful realness; the light and shadow, the highs and lows of it all.
I'm obsessed with the way your skin wraps your body, how your body moves, bends, twists, dimples, puckers, sits, how you carry your babes and how the sun falls across your skin. I am passionate about continuity of care, ecstatic birth outcomes and supported postpartum for all birthing people. I am here to support and care for you in any way that deepens your connection and trust in your self.
Step into your knowing. Step into your skin.
I grew up in a country town in south east Queensland. We lived out of town, on acerage with a lush flowing creek. My parents were storytellers, my mother conjuring magic in everything she touched. We were barefoot, bush kids with knots in our long tresses, hand me down clothes and lots of freedom to wander in nature around our home. My connection to nature is intrinsic in all that I do. It is where I find my breath. I am barefoot often. Nature is a prominent element in my work, as I explore the relationship between human mother and mother earth.
