A community-based project using photography to document and inspire connection between all people in the neighbourhood. It is an intimate portrait series on the humans that form our community, each photograph an invitation to look inward at the people we see every day, over garden fences, at the bus stop or bakery – but who we have no true understanding of or connection with.

The goal of this project is to inspire acceptance and awareness throughout the local community. To open people’s eyes and create wonder and interest in the people that they see daily; regardless of race, age, sex, social status. To deepen the connection we have to the humans around us by seeing their stories reflected back to us in intimate and unique expressions of art.

It will be a ‘looking in’ on the everyday people that make up those micro communities; the people that you see daily and exist within a shared space, the neighbour just over the fence that maybe you have never connected to.

A community photography project.

Over The Fence Project

My aim is to provide a collaborative space for individuals from all walks of life and culturally diverse backgrounds, to give voice to their story. Why they live in their house; perhaps they have an interesting hobby; perhaps their world in shaped by their past; what lights them up every day etc…their story awaits to be told.

For local residents in the communities of north Brisbane suburbs.

If you would like to be considered as a participant, or would like to nominate someone for this project, please email overthefenceproject@gmail.com

How each session will work:
~ Let's get together for a chat over a warm cuppa or coffee to get to know each other a little more, and to find out if you are a good fit for the project
~ Then we plan when and how we will shoot your portrait in your house or yard or community space
~ Photoshoot happens
~ Photos are edited and collated into a community exhibition
~ You receive a digital copy of the photographer's choice of photographs to keep

Yes, I'm keen!

let's connect

Are you ready to tell your story?

Working with Tani I really felt seen and heard as a woman.

Through her lens I saw the beauty that surrounds me amongst the mess of my mind and house.

Tani captured more than my bare skin, but my essence and truth.
